CBSE to Collaborate with NCB for Awareness Program Against Drug Abuse in Schools

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced a major collaboration with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) to launch a nationwide awareness program against drug abuse in CBSE-affiliated schools. The official Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between CBSE and NCB, under the Ministry of Home Affairs, will be signed on September 3, 2025, at the CBSE Headquarters in Dwarka, New Delhi.

According to the official press statement issued by CBSE, the initiative aims to promote a drug-free school environment by sensitizing students, educators, and counsellors about the dangers of substance abuse. With this partnership, both CBSE and NCB will jointly implement awareness campaigns, workshops, and counselling programs to strengthen the role of schools in preventing drug misuse among students.

Focus on Drug-Free Schools

The CBSE-NCB awareness program is designed to address the growing concerns about drug abuse among the youth. Schools play a critical role in shaping children’s choices, and the Board emphasized that this collaboration will empower principals, teachers, and counsellors to recognize early warning signs and take proactive steps.

The awareness program will include:

  • Workshops for principals and counsellors to enhance their understanding of substance abuse prevention.
  • Counselling initiatives to support students in making informed, healthy, and responsible life choices.
  • Interactive awareness sessions to spread knowledge about the legal, social, and health consequences of drug abuse.

CBSE highlighted that creating drug-free school communities is vital for the holistic development of students. By partnering with NCB, the Board is aligning educational institutions with the government’s broader mission of curbing drug misuse among young people.

Registration Details for Schools

In its statement, CBSE shared that principals and counsellors of CBSE-affiliated schools are invited to participate in the MoU signing ceremony and the Awareness Program. A registration link has been provided, and selected participants will receive confirmation via email.

The Board clarified that no registration fee is required. However, participants will need to manage their own travel and accommodation expenses. This ensures that the program remains accessible while fostering responsibility and commitment among schools.

Empowering Educators and Counsellors

Once the MoU is signed, the Awareness Program for Principals and Counsellors will officially begin. The training will focus on:

  • Strategies for substance abuse prevention in school settings.
  • Strengthening the capacity of educators to intervene effectively.
  • Building support systems within schools to guide students towards positive choices.

By empowering educators, CBSE and NCB hope to create a sustainable framework where schools act as safe zones for children, free from the threat of drugs.

A Step Towards a Healthy Future

The CBSE’s collaboration with the NCB marks a historic initiative in the education sector, emphasizing the role of schools in nation-building. The drug abuse awareness program will not only protect children from harmful substances but also foster a culture of discipline, responsibility, and health.

With this joint effort, CBSE reaffirms its commitment to the mental health and well-being of students, ensuring that schools continue to nurture future citizens who are resilient, aware, and drug-free.
