Indian wrestlers delivered a stellar performance at the U17 World Wrestling Championships 2025 held in Athens, Greece, from July 28 to August 3, clinching a total of six medals, including three gold, two silver, and one bronze. The remarkable achievement includes a historic performance by the nation’s young women wrestlers, who secured five of these medals, underscoring India’s growing dominance in youth wrestling on the global stage.

In a groundbreaking moment, Rachana etched her name in the history books by becoming the first Indian to win gold in the 43 kg women’s freestyle category. She showcased technical prowess and composure as she defeated China’s Xin Huang with a confident 3-0 victory in the final.

Adding to the gold tally was Ashvini Vishnoi, who triumphed in the 65 kg women’s freestyle category. Her dominant performance in the final saw her defeat Uzbekistan’s Mukhayyo Rakhimjonova, also with a 3-0 score, highlighting her tactical brilliance and strength on the mat.

In the 57 kg category, Moni fought valiantly but narrowly missed the top podium spot, settling for silver after a 5-6 loss in a hard-fought final against Kazakhstan’s Madkhiya Usmanov. Kajal brought home another silver medal in the 73 kg category, falling to China’s Wenjin Qiu in the final bout.

Meanwhile, Komal Verma added to India’s medal count by securing a bronze medal in the 49 kg category, defeating Anhelina Burkina with a strong display of technique and resolve.

Outside the women’s division, India’s first medal came through Hardeep, who clinched gold in the 110 kg Greco-Roman wrestling category. His win marked a significant milestone for India in this often underrepresented discipline, showcasing the country’s expanding strength across all wrestling formats.
