NEET UG 2025 Counselling information bulletin released, MCC explains counselling scheme

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has officially released the NEET UG 2025 counselling information bulletin, kickstarting the admission process for MBBS, BDS, and allied courses across India. The information brochure outlines the detailed admission policy for 15% All India Quota (AIQ) seats and the remaining 85% state quota counselling, offering clarity and transparency to over 12.36 lakh NEET UG-qualified candidates.

ROUND 1 COUNSELLING REGISTRATION BEGINS

The MCC opened the NEET UG 2025 counselling registration window on July 21 for candidates who cleared the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET). Aspirants must complete the registration and choice filling process for round 1 by July 28, following which the round 1 seat allotment result will be declared on July 31.

Eligible candidates are required to fill in their preferred courses and colleges in order of priority during the choice-filling window. Based on the options entered, seat allocation will be done through centralized counselling by MCC using a transparent and merit-based system.

TOTAL MBBS SEATS AND SEAT MATRIX

As per the NEET MBBS seat matrix 2025, a total of 1,15,900 MBBS seats are available across the country. These seats are distributed among government colleges, private medical institutions, deemed universities, central universities, AIIMS, and JIPMER.

KEY CHANGES INTRODUCED IN NEET UG 2025 COUNSELLING

The MCC has implemented several reforms post-2023 to streamline the admission process and ensure fair seat distribution. Here are the major updates for NEET UG 2025:

Mop-up Round Renamed to Round 3: The earlier ‘mop-up’ round is now officially referred to as AIQ Round 3, followed by a Stray Vacancy Round as the final round of counselling.

No Resignation After Round 3: Candidates joining in round 3 will not be allowed to resign or participate in any further counselling. Hence, aspirants must make well-informed choices before opting for seats in round 3.

AIQ Round 3 Restrictions: Those who accept a seat in round 3 will be barred from future counselling rounds, both at the all-India and state levels. MCC and states will share data to eliminate such candidates from the Stray Vacancy Round if they are already allotted seats.

OCI Eligibility: As per the Supreme Court ruling, Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholders will now be treated on par with Indian citizens, making them eligible for UR and NRI category seats.

Centralised MCC Software: MCC has launched a centralized software system for all participating institutions and states to ensure a uniform counselling platform. This unified system handles seat allotment, online reporting, relieving, and joining processes.

Automatic Seat Cancellation: If a candidate is allotted a higher preference in subsequent rounds, the previously allotted seat will be automatically cancelled.

Seat Conversion Policy: Unused category seats, including Jain Minority, Muslim Minority, and NRI seats, will be converted to general private deemed university seats after all eligible candidates are exhausted in Round 3 to prevent wastage.

No Offline Resignations Allowed: All admissions, reporting, and resignations must be done exclusively online through the MCC portal.

With major procedural and technological improvements, NEET UG counselling 2025 promises a more seamless and equitable admission process. Aspirants are advised to regularly visit the MCC website, carefully follow instructions, and be mindful of deadlines to secure a seat in their desired medical college, for more details and check complete counselling scheme CLICK HERE
