With an aim to raise awareness about the Hindi language, promote its use, and celebrate the contributions of scholars and writers in Hindi language, World Hindi Day, also known as Vishwa Hindi Diwas, is celebrated annually on 10th January, Hindi is majorly spoken in states like Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Punjab, and also in some countries like Nepal, Fuji, Suriname, Mauritius, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago.
SIGNIFICANCE
After Mandarin Chinese and English, Hindi is the third most spoken language in the world, It is spoken by 600 million people across the world, World Hindi Day in India is celebrated with seminars, quizzes, speech and essay writing in Hindi, plays to highlight the beauty and depth of the language

HISTORY
The first World Hindi Conference was held in Nagpur, Maharashtra, in 1975, It was inaugurated by the Prime Minister Indira Gandhi attended by participants from 30 countries, Indira Gandhi supported Hindi as a national language and encouraged its use in government and education
In 2006 the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh announced 10th January every year to be marked as World Hindi Day. The World Hindi Day marks the commemoration of the first time Hindi was spoken in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in 1949
