World Health Organization celebrates global health day every year on 7th April worldwide to create awareness on the benefits of being healthy. On this day many programs and arrangements are curate by the WHO.
World Health Day was first time celebrated worldwide in the year 1950. It is universal: “Health is Wealth”. It is the significant aspect of our existence which can’t be denied.
Health is of chief importance, it is a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing. For a healthy life, a person needs to have a balanced diet and has to frequently exercise.
Still, people often take Health for granted. But, in life, some things should never be taken for granted.”Health is wealth,” which means when a person lives a healthy spiritual, mental, physical, and emotional lifestyle becomes the richest person in the world.
World Health Day: Activities
At the global level, this day targets all the issues related to health and for this several programs are organized on a yearly basis by the WHO.
- It is celebrated worldwide by the government of all participant countries, NGO’s and other organizations.
- Health authorities from different countries participate in the celebrations with their pledges to support on the health issues worldwide.
- It acts as a reminder to people about the establishment of WHO and to spread awareness among people about major health issues in the world.
- WHO has worked on eradicating various serious health issues in developing countries like chickenpox, polio, smallpox, TB, leprosy, etc.
Many non-government organizations, communities, doctors, government organizations, etc., voluntarily involve in the events and widen their helping hands. The major focus of the events is centered on the theme for that particular year. It aim is removing this discrepancy. Healthcare facilities should be accessible by everyone.
World Health Day is beneficial in multi way. It combines people throughout the globe over a sensitive issue of health.
Marches and processions are conducted to increases awareness regarding good health and its advantages. Free medical checkup camps are also held to help the people, especially from the lower strata of society.
Numerous competitions like debate, speech, essay writing, talk shows, etc. are held to make people and children aware of the benefits of staying healthy and fit. Health professionals teach people and children on how to stay healthy by inculcating certain good habits at the place of work or school.
Each year a theme is selected for World Health Day that highlights a priority area of concern for WHO. The theme for World Health Day is “Support nurses and midwives.”
Nurses plays a Lakhs of nurses are working more hours eliding their meals and sleep to provide for the health care systems across the globe. One role in health promotion, disease prevention and delivering firstly and community care.
This year 2020 the World Health Day theme took place in the context of the COVID-19 global pandemic and was therefore launched as “Support Nurses and Midwives”. Across the world, people contribute the day for appreciation of the nurses and health care workers on the frontlines battling against COVID-19 virus.
The US White House released a presidential message emphasizing the role public health plays in “building strong, prosperous, and free societies around the world”.
The celebration of 2020 World Health Day took place across the world in a mostly virtual environment through online press conferences, announcements, and social media due to the worldwide, broad based, “stay at home” order due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. Most of the efforts were focused on raising funds for the COVID-19 solidarity response fund.
Healthcare facilities should not be a luxury, it should be affordable, and there should be zero discrimination for all.
Nurses may not be angels, but they are the next best thing. It is said that good health provides better ability to do work as per the requirements of the growing World and hence it is most important.
World Health Organization (WHO)’s foundation was laid on the principle that all humans realize their right to the highest possible level of health. A slogan of “Health for all” is for more than 7 decades old and works as a guiding vision. The main aim is to create awareness of a specific health topic to highlight a preferred sector of treat for the World Health Organization.

This day is dedicated to nurses and midwives with an aim to remind world leaders of the critical role they play in keeping the world healthy. Life without health is like hell! So be cautious about your health always & if health is lost, everything is lost.
