10 Lakh Citizens to Receive Free AI Training: Focus on Empowering Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs)

In a major push towards digital empowerment and inclusive technological growth, the government has announced a pathbreaking initiative to provide free Artificial Intelligence (AI) training to 10 lakh citizens across India. This ambitious program aims to bridge the digital divide and ensure that emerging technologies like AI are accessible not just to urban populations but also to rural communities. Priority will be given to Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs), who play a crucial role in delivering digital services to the grassroots.

This initiative is part of India’s broader vision to become a global leader in AI-driven innovation while ensuring equitable participation from all sections of society. The free training program will focus on basic to intermediate-level AI concepts, including machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, and ethical AI practices. It will also cover practical use cases in agriculture, healthcare, governance, and small business management.

By prioritizing Village Level Entrepreneurs, the initiative recognizes the pivotal role they play in rural digital transformation. VLEs are the backbone of the Common Services Centres (CSCs) across villages, providing essential digital services to citizens such as e-governance, education, telemedicine, and financial services. Equipping them with AI skills will enable them to enhance service delivery, support local economic activities, and create new livelihood opportunities through technology.

Training will be conducted through a blend of online and offline modes, leveraging the existing CSC infrastructure, state-run educational platforms, and partnerships with industry leaders and academic institutions. Upon successful completion, participants will receive certificates to recognize their AI proficiency, enhancing their credibility and employment prospects.

This initiative also aims to foster innovation at the grassroots. By enabling rural entrepreneurs to adopt AI solutions, the program is expected to improve agricultural productivity, streamline small business operations, and introduce smarter tools for public service delivery in villages.

Officials from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) emphasized that this AI training program is not just about skill development, but about building a digitally empowered and economically self-reliant India. With over 10 lakh citizens set to benefit, and VLEs at the forefront, the program promises to democratize access to AI and unlock the transformative power of technology for rural India, for more details CLICK HERE
