UGC issued Clarification on Minimum criteria for recruitment of Assistant Professor

UGC issued clarification regarding UGC Regulations on Minimum Qualifications and for appointment of teachers and other academic staff in universities and colleges and measures for the maintenance of standards in higher education, 2018 and 1st & 2nd Amendments,

As per the notification released UGC has amended the general condition clause no. 3. 10, which stipulates Ph.D. as a mandatory requirement from Ist July 2023. The detailed eligibility criteria given under various disciplines are not amended. and it is mentioned clearly that NET/SLET/SET is the minimum requirement for the direct recruitment of an Assistant Professor for those who do not have a Ph.D. degree

But holders of Ph.D. degrees awarded as per UGC Regulations and its amendments are exempted from NET / SLET / SET and thereby eligible for direct recruitment to the post of Assistant Professor, for more details CLICK HERE

University Grants Commission (UGC) chairperson Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar said Ph.D. qualification for appointment as an Assistant Professor would be optional from 1st July 2023.

National Eligibility Test (NET), State Eligibility Test (SET) and State Level Eligibility Test (SLET) shall be the minimum criteria for the direct recruitment to the post of Assistant Professor for all Higher Education Institutions, announcement of the revised regulations, made on 30th June 2023 on the minimum qualifications for the appointment of teachers and academic staff has come into effect from 1st July 2023

The amendment by the University Grants Commission (UGC) aims to maintain and enhance the standards of education in higher education institutions by ensuring that candidates who have cleared the necessary eligibility tests for the role of assistant professor.
