PROCEDURE TO APPLY
Step 1 : Visit the official e-filing home page of the IT department (CLICK HERE)
Step 2 : Click on the ‘Get New PAN’ button to redirect you to the instant PAN request webpage.
Step 3 : Enter your Aadhar number for PAN allotment along with the captcha code (Verify your details once)
Step 4 : Click on the ‘Generate Aadhar OTP’ to receive the OTP on your registered mobile number.
Step 5 : Enter the Aadhaar OTP received on your registered mobile number and click on the ‘Validate Aadhaar OTP & Continue button
Step 6 : You will be redirected to the PAN request submission page where you will be required to validate your Aadhaar details and accept the terms and conditions
Step 7 : Click on the ‘Submit PAN Request’ button.
Step 8 : Note Down the acknowledgement number for validation once you have submitted your Aadhar details
PROCEDURE TO CHECK STATUS
Step 1 : Visit the official e-filing home page of the IT department (CLICK HERE)
Step 2 : Click on the ‘Check Status/Download PAN’ button to redirect you to the instant PAN request webpage.
Step 3 : Enter your valid Aadhar number and captcha code. Click on the ‘Submit’
Step 4 : Enter the OTP received on your registered mobile number within the specified time limit
Step 5 : Click on the ‘Submit’ button to proceed to the next page
Step 6 : You will be redirected to a new page where you can check the status of your PAN allotment request, if it’s successful then a PDF link will be generated to download PAN Card

PAN card or Permanent Account Number is one of the most vital and prominent documents for every citizen of India. It is not only used for tax purposes but it is also used like identity proof.
The card contains a unique ten digit alpha numeric number and is issued in a form of a laminated card from the Indian Tax Department.Your PAN holds all your tax-related information in one place also your PAN card will links to all your financial transactions, it allows the Income Tax Department to maintain a detailed record of all the transactions you made. You can apply for the PAN Card through online and even in offline mode.
PROCEDURE TO APPLY ONLINE
PAN can be applied online. Even changes or correction in PAN card can also be done through online. Online application of PAN can be made on the NSDL website orUTIITSL website.
Online application are often created through any one of the portal of NSDL (CLICK HERE) or portal of UTITSL (CLICK HERE). The charge for applying for PAN is 93.Rs (Excluding GST) for Indian communication address and 864.Rs (Excluding GST) for foreign communication address. Payment can be done through credit card,debit card, DD or net-banking.
Once the application and payment is accepted by portal, the applicant is required to send the supporting documents through courier or post to NSDL or UTITSL. Only after receiving of the documents by NSDL/UTITSL, PAN application will be processed by NSDL/UTITSL.
STEP BY STEP GUIDE
If you are applying for a new PAN card then you have to fill the Form 49A or 49AA based on whether you are an Indian citizen or a foreign citizen. Keep in mind that this procedure is mainly for applicants who don’t currently have a PAN card and have never applied before. Here are the steps to follow:
Step 1:Visit the NSDL website’s Online PAN Application section (CLICK HERE)
Step 2: Select your application type: Form 49A (Indian Citizens) or 49AA (Foreign Citizens) or Changes or Correction in PAN/Reprint of PAN Card.
Step 3: Select your Category as“Individual”.
Step 4:Fill all the details such as title, Last name or surname, First name, Middle Name, Date of Birth/Incorporation/Formation in DD/MM/YYYY format, email ID, mobile number, and Captcha code. Information marked with an asterisk sign should be filled compulsory. Finally submit your form.
Step 5:On the very next page you will get an acknowledgement along with a token number. Click on ‘Continue with PAN Application Form‘ on this page.
Step 6: You will be directed to fill in more personal details similar to Form 49A or Form 49AA. Fill all the necessary data.
Step 7: Choose how you want to submit the documents. You can choose
- a) Submit application documents physically
- b) Forward digitally through digital signature
- c) Send digitally through e-sign.
Step 8: On the same page, select what documents you are submitting as proofs for identity, address, and date of birth. Confirm the declaration, place and date of application. Review and submit the form. Make sure that you didn’t make any mistakes.
Step 9: Click on ‘Proceed’ and that will take you to the payment options. Choose between Demand Draft and Online Payment through Bill Desk.
Step 10: If you choose Demand Draft, you will have had to make a DD before you begin the application process as you have to provide the DD number, date of issue, amount, and the name of the bank from where DD is generated on the portal.
Step 11: If you choose Bill Desk, you can pay through Net Banking, and Debit or Credit Cards.
Step 12: At last click on ‘I agree to terms of service’ and proceed to pay. The PAN application fees will vary depends on whether you are sending documents separately to NSDL or uploading online.
Step 13:If you pay by using your credit card or debit card or via net banking, you will receive an acknowledgement receipt and payment receipt. Take a print of acknowledgement receipt.
Step 14:Attach your 2 recent photographs along with an acknowledgement receipt.
Note: Do not staple your photos. Ensure that you sign on the photo that you attach on the left side of the receipt. Do not sign on the photo at right side. Make sure that your signature is done within the box provided. If you use your left thumb impression, ensure that it is attested by a gazette officer or a notary.
Step 15:After payment is done send the same documents that you selected before (In step-8) via post or courier to NSDL.
Once your documents are received, NSDL will process your application. If you have provided your office address as your preferred address for communication, you will also need to submit proof of office address along with your residential address proof.
PROCEDURE TO CHECK THE VERIFICATION STATUS
- Log in to NSDL financial service website.
- For replacement or reprint of PAN card, enter your existing PAN card number.
- For those applying for a PAN card for the first time, enter the applicant token number.
- Once the code or the PAN number has been entered, enter the captcha.
- Click on submit button.
- The website will display the PAN status.
- Applicants will have to check the verification status within 5 days of receiving the acknowledgment.
