India’s AI Leap: ‘Mission AI-Saksham’ Launched to Bridge Talent Gap in Artificial Intelligence

India is on the brink of an artificial intelligence revolution. With the domestic AI market projected to reach a valuation of $17 billion by 2027, the country is poised to become a global leader in intelligent technologies. However, a critical challenge threatens to slow this momentum—the widening gap between the demand for AI talent and the availability of job-ready professionals.

To address this urgent issue, AI CERTs has launched Mission AI-Saksham, a nationwide initiative aimed at empowering students across India’s colleges and universities with free AI certification programs. The mission’s primary objective is to equip learners from diverse academic disciplines—engineering, arts, commerce, management, and beyond—with the essential, industry-relevant AI skills needed in today’s job market.

Chintan Dave, General Manager of AI CERTs, highlighted the need for this initiative: “As artificial intelligence reshapes global industries, the mismatch between academic curriculum and real-world job requirements has never been more evident. ‘Mission AI-Saksham’ is our response to this challenge.”

Despite India’s vast youth population and growing higher education infrastructure, the country faces a significant shortfall in AI-ready professionals. Industry estimates suggest that while the AI sector is expected to generate over 2.3 million jobs by 2027, only around 1.2 million qualified individuals may be available—signaling a massive skills gap. Mission AI-Saksham aims to close this gap by embedding job-ready AI learning into the student experience.

This flagship initiative takes a collaborative approach by partnering with academic institutions to offer certification programs that are not only free but also deeply integrated into existing curricula. These certifications will be delivered through:

  • Practical workshops and AI bootcamps
  • Modular training aligned with industry needs
  • Real-world project assignments and use cases
  • Peer-led learning and community-driven knowledge exchange

Unlike traditional courses, the emphasis is on experiential learning—providing students access to the same tools, techniques, and datasets that AI professionals use globally.

By fostering digital preparedness and promoting inclusivity, Mission AI-Saksham is more than a training initiative—it’s a strategic move to ensure that India’s future workforce is equipped, empowered, and ready to lead in the era of artificial intelligence.
