Indian Army Launches Operation SHIVA 2025 for Amarnath Yatra Security

The Indian Army has launched Operation SHIVA 2025 to ensure the safe and secure conduct of the Amarnath Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir, a significant annual pilgrimage that attracts thousands of devotees from across the country. The operation commenced on July 12, 2025, with an extensive security and logistical deployment aimed at protecting pilgrims amidst heightened regional threats.

As part of the operation, over 8,500 troops have been mobilized across the yatra route, including strategic points in the Pahalgam and Baltal sectors. These deployments are supported by advanced anti-drone systems, robust medical facilities, and comprehensive engineering support to maintain road connectivity, clear landslides, and address infrastructural challenges in the treacherous mountainous terrain.

Operation SHIVA 2025 is being carried out in close coordination with Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), including CRPF and BSF, as well as the Jammu and Kashmir Police and civil administration. This integrated approach ensures that all aspects of security, crowd management, and emergency response are covered effectively. The operation is particularly focused on neutralizing potential threats from Pakistan-backed terrorist groups, which have previously attempted to disrupt the pilgrimage.

The Army has intensified surveillance operations along key routes using drones, high-tech sensors, and reconnaissance patrols to detect and eliminate any suspicious movement. Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) and bomb disposal squads have also been stationed at various points to handle emergencies and maintain round-the-clock vigilance.

In addition to counterterrorism measures, Operation SHIVA 2025 includes provisions for disaster readiness, such as avalanche warning systems, emergency evacuation plans, and mobile medical units equipped to handle both minor injuries and critical health emergencies. The presence of medical camps along the yatra route underscores the Army’s commitment to the well-being of pilgrims.
