The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced the launch of its fourth global hackathon — HaRBInger 2025: Innovation for Transformation, focusing on the theme “Secure Banking through Identity, Integrity, and Inclusivity.” The initiative aims to encourage innovative, tech-driven financial solutions that enhance security, inclusivity, and user trust in India’s rapidly evolving digital banking ecosystem.
The RBI’s HaRBInger hackathon series has become a prestigious global platform that brings together fintech innovators, developers, startups, and academic institutions to ideate and prototype solutions for real-world banking and financial challenges.
FOCUS AREAS OF HARBINGER 2025
HaRBInger 2025 focuses on three key problem statements designed to strengthen the foundation of digital trust, financial security, and user empowerment in India’s banking system:
Tokenized KYC (Know Your Customer): Participants are challenged to design privacy-preserving, token-based KYC frameworks that ensure user data security and simplify compliance for financial institutions. This solution aims to reduce data breaches while enhancing efficiency in identity verification.
Offline Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC): With India’s ongoing efforts to promote digital currency adoption, innovators are invited to develop offline transaction models for the Digital Rupee (e₹) that ensure accessibility in remote areas with limited internet connectivity.
Enhancing Trust in Banking: This problem statement encourages participants to create AI-driven, blockchain-based, or cryptographic solutions that reinforce trust, transparency, and integrity in financial transactions, fostering greater consumer confidence.
