The Prime Minister of Fiji, Sitiveni Rabuka, will embark on a three-day official visit to India from August 24 to 26, 2025, accompanied by his wife and a high-level delegation that includes Fiji’s Health Minister Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu. The visit marks a significant step in deepening the strategic partnership and cultural ties between India and Fiji.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

During his visit, Prime Minister Rabuka will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. Discussions are expected to cover areas such as healthcare, education, climate change, renewable energy, trade, and maritime cooperation. As part of the diplomatic engagements, Prime Minister Modi will also host an official lunch in honour of the visiting leader.

The visit comes at a crucial time when both nations are seeking to expand their cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region, focusing on sustainable development, digital technology, and cultural exchange. India and Fiji have shared historical ties, as a large number of the Indian diaspora resides in Fiji, contributing to its society, economy, and culture.

Meeting with the President of India

Apart from the talks with PM Modi, Prime Minister Rabuka will call on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The meeting is expected to highlight the long-standing friendship between the two nations and reaffirm India’s commitment to strengthening its engagement with the Pacific Island countries.

Lecture at ICWA – “Ocean of Peace”

A key highlight of the visit will be Prime Minister Rabuka’s lecture titled ‘Ocean of Peace’ at the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA). The lecture will focus on Fiji’s role in the Indo-Pacific, the importance of peace, maritime cooperation, and India’s growing partnership with the Pacific Island nations. The event will serve as a platform for academic exchange and greater understanding of Fiji’s vision for regional stability.

Expanding People-to-People Ties

The visit aims to enhance these engagements and provide new opportunities for collaboration in tourism, skill development, and youth exchange programs.

Looking Ahead

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka’s visit to India is expected to open new avenues of cooperation, especially in areas such as climate resilience, digital transformation, trade diversification, and healthcare partnerships.
