OpenAI has officially announced the launch of ChatGPT Go, a new low-cost subscription plan aimed at expanding access to its advanced AI tools in India. Priced at Rs 399 per month (including GST), the subscription plan comes with significantly higher message limits, image generation capabilities, file and image uploads, longer memory, and advanced data analysis. The company confirmed that ChatGPT Go is powered by its latest GPT-5 model, which includes enhanced support for Indic languages, making it more inclusive for Indian users.
The announcement was made in a blog post on August 18, 2025, with OpenAI highlighting India as its second-largest and one of the fastest-growing markets for AI adoption. By introducing a more affordable tier, OpenAI is directly addressing the demand for greater access to AI tools among students, professionals, and creators across the country.
Features and Benefits of ChatGPT Go
For a monthly fee of Rs 399, ChatGPT Go provides everything included in the free plan, along with several premium benefits. These include 10 times higher message limits, the ability to generate images, upload larger files, and access to advanced data analysis. Subscribers also benefit from longer memory, which enables more personalized conversations over time. The plan is available across web, mobile (iOS and Android), and desktop (macOS and Windows) platforms, ensuring accessibility for users across devices.
“ChatGPT Go is designed for people in India who want greater access to ChatGPT’s advanced capabilities at a more affordable price,” OpenAI said in its release. By introducing this tier, the company is offering features that were previously available only in higher-priced subscription models.
How ChatGPT Go Compares to Other Plans
OpenAI clarified that ChatGPT Go gives users access to its most popular tools, such as GPT-5 messaging, multimodal tools like image generation, file uploads, and extended memory. In comparison, ChatGPT Plus, priced at Rs 1,999 per month, is tailored for advanced users. Plus subscribers gain access to additional models like GPT-4o, as well as advanced tools including deep research, agent mode, and Sora creation. For enterprises, the ChatGPT Pro plan, at Rs 19,900 per month, provides large-scale and customizable access to AI.
Payments via UPI for Indian Users
To make subscriptions more accessible, OpenAI confirmed that all ChatGPT plans, including Go, can be paid using UPI—a move expected to accelerate adoption across India. “ChatGPT Go is geo-restricted to India at launch and is available through both credit card and UPI payments,” the company noted.
OpenAI Leadership on ChatGPT Go
Nick Turley, Vice President and Head of ChatGPT, shared the update on social platform X on August 19, 2025. He wrote, “We just launched ChatGPT Go in India, a new subscription tier that gives users more access to our most popular features: 10x higher message limits, 10x more image generations, 10x more file uploads, and 2x longer memory compared with the free tier. All for Rs 399.”
Turley added that subscription prices will now appear in Indian Rupees and that UPI payments are available, a feature many users had requested. He emphasized that India is the first market to get ChatGPT Go, and feedback from this launch will guide its potential rollout in other regions.
