In a landmark move to simplify highway travel and enhance commuter convenience, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced the FASTag Annual Pass for non-commercial vehicles. Launched nationwide on 15th August 2025, the initiative covers 1,150 toll plazas across the country, providing vehicle owners with the option of unlimited travel for a one-time fee of ₹3,000. The pass remains valid for one year or up to 200 crossings, whichever comes first, making it a cost-effective and hassle-free option for frequent travelers.
Massive Response on Day One
The launch of the FASTag Annual Pass has received an overwhelming response from commuters. On the very first day, over 1.4 lakh users activated the pass, highlighting the immense popularity and demand for a simplified toll collection system. With 98% FASTag penetration already achieved across the national highway network, the new pass further consolidates the success of the digital toll payment system introduced by the government in recent years.
A Step Towards ‘Ease of Living’
The FASTag Annual Pass is designed to align with the government’s larger vision of improving citizens’ ‘Ease of Living’. By offering an unlimited travel option, NHAI aims to eliminate repetitive toll deductions and long queues at plazas, thereby reducing travel time and stress for commuters. The initiative is especially beneficial for individuals who frequently commute between cities, such as professionals, daily travelers, and families who often use highways for social or educational purposes.
Seamless Digital Activation
One of the most notable features of this initiative is the ease of activation. Users can purchase and activate their FASTag Annual Pass through the Rajmargyatra App, a one-stop platform for highway-related services. The app ensures a smooth digital experience, enabling users to manage their passes, monitor usage, and renew subscriptions with just a few clicks.
Strengthened Helpline and Support
To ensure smooth operations and timely redressal of grievances, the NHAI has also strengthened its 1033 helpline service. This dedicated helpline now offers enhanced support for issues related to the FASTag Annual Pass, toll transactions, and technical assistance. The move underlines NHAI’s commitment to passenger-friendly services and continuous improvements in highway infrastructure management.
Driving the Digital Highway Ecosystem
The introduction of the FASTag Annual Pass is another milestone in India’s journey towards building a digitally-driven highway ecosystem. With 98% penetration, FASTag has already transformed toll collection by making it faster, transparent, and efficient. The annual pass further strengthens this ecosystem by offering a product that blends convenience, affordability, and digital integration.
Experts believe the FASTag Annual Pass will significantly reduce congestion at toll plazas, lower transaction times, and encourage more users to adopt digital payments. Over time, it is expected to become a preferred choice for frequent highway commuters, further reinforcing India’s digital-first approach in infrastructure services.
By combining technology, affordability, and user-friendly solutions, the FASTag Annual Pass is set to redefine road travel for millions of non-commercial vehicle owners in India, making journeys smoother and more efficient across the nation’s expanding highway network.
