The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is set to embark on a historic milestone, launching its Centenary Year celebrations on 1st October 2025, commemorating 100 years of unwavering commitment to merit and public service. The celebrations will span an entire year, concluding in October 2026, with a series of events and initiatives aimed at honoring its legacy, reflecting on its journey, and setting a vision for the future.
Established in 1926 under the Government of India Act, 1919, the Public Service Commission was initially tasked with advising the Government on matters relating to recruitment and service conditions for the civil services. Following India’s independence, the body was reconstituted as the Union Public Service Commission under the provisions of the Constitution of India in 1950. Over the decades, UPSC has emerged as one of the country’s most respected institutions, known for upholding the highest standards of transparency, fairness, and meritocracy in recruiting top civil servants.
Announcing the centenary plans, UPSC Chairman Ajay Kumar described the occasion as a moment of pride, reflection, and renewed commitment. He emphasized that the Commission’s legacy is built on its unwavering dedication to selecting candidates solely on merit, ensuring that India’s administrative machinery remains competent, impartial, and people-focused.
The centenary year will feature a special commemorative logo and tagline, symbolizing both the rich heritage and forward-looking vision of the UPSC. In addition to celebrating its past, the UPSC is also using the centenary year as an opportunity to introduce new reforms. Chairman Ajay Kumar outlined plans to further enhance the examination process, integrating technology-driven solutions to make recruitment more accessible, efficient, and inclusive. These reforms aim to address evolving challenges, such as expanding outreach to rural and underprivileged aspirants, improving transparency through real-time updates, and refining evaluation methods to better assess candidates’ aptitude for public service.
