A tragic flash flood has wreaked havoc in Dharali village, located in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, after a sudden cloudburst in the upper catchment of the Kheer Ganga river. Triggered by the intense cloudburst, the floodwaters surged through Dharali village, sweeping away homes, shops, roads, and hotels. Visuals from the site show buildings submerged in mud, vehicles buried under debris, and entire structures reduced to rubble. There are grave concerns that 10–12 labourers working in the vicinity may be trapped under the debris, sparking an urgent search and rescue operation. While official confirmation is awaited, locals fear the worst as efforts to locate the missing continue under difficult conditions.

The neighboring Banala Patti region has also suffered due to the flash flood. Reports confirm that 18 goats were washed away, highlighting the serious impact of the disaster not only on infrastructure but also on local livelihoods. For many families in this remote Himalayan region, livestock is a vital economic resource, and such losses will be deeply felt for months to come.
Rescue and Relief Operations Underway
Responding swiftly to the crisis, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams, Army personnel, and local administration officials have been deployed for rescue and relief operations. However, they are facing enormous challenges due to the remote terrain, continuous heavy rainfall, and severely damaged communication lines.
Rescuers are using manual tools, drones, and sniffer dogs to search for trapped individuals. Evacuation of affected families is ongoing, with temporary shelters being set up in nearby safe zones.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall warning for Uttarakhand till August 10, intensifying concerns about further landslides, flash floods, and waterlogging in already vulnerable areas.
