In a significant leadership transition, Indian-origin executive Nikhil Ravishankar has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of Air New Zealand, taking over from Greg Foran, who will step down on October 20, 2025. The appointment marks a strategic move for the national carrier as it continues its transformation in the post-pandemic aviation landscape.
Ravishankar, who currently serves as Chief Digital Officer (CDO) at Air New Zealand, brings a wealth of experience in technology, innovation, and customer engagement. Over his nearly five-year tenure with the airline, he has led efforts to modernize the airline’s digital infrastructure, significantly enhancing customer experience platforms, loyalty systems, and data-driven operations. His work has played a crucial role in reshaping the airline’s digital strategy, aligning with changing traveler expectations and global aviation standards.
Before joining Air New Zealand, Ravishankar held key leadership roles in the telecommunications and IT sectors, including at Spark New Zealand and Accenture. His strong background in digital transformation is expected to support the airline’s continued push toward sustainability, automation, and personalized travel services.
Chairwoman Dame Therese Walsh praised Ravishankar’s appointment, stating, “Nikhil is a visionary leader who understands the evolving dynamics of global aviation. His commitment to innovation and customer-centric thinking makes him the ideal person to guide Air New Zealand through its next chapter.”
Outgoing CEO Greg Foran, who led the airline through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, will be remembered for restoring financial stability and rebuilding international operations. He expressed confidence in his successor, saying, “Nikhil has the right combination of strategic insight, digital prowess, and passion for Air New Zealand’s purpose.”
Ravishankar, in his official statement, said he was “honored and humbled” to take on the role. “Air New Zealand is more than just an airline—it’s a symbol of Kiwi spirit and innovation. I’m excited to lead a talented team as we shape the future of aviation for our customers, our people, and our country.”
As CEO, Ravishankar is expected to focus on sustainability goals, AI-driven customer experiences, and expanding global partnerships, ensuring Air New Zealand remains competitive in the ever-evolving airline industry.
