K J Somaiya College of Nursing Launches Certificate Programme in Healthcare OPD Coordination

The K J Somaiya College of Nursing, in collaboration with the K J Somaiya Institute of Management, has launched a certificate programme in healthcare OPD coordination, aimed at enhancing outpatient department (OPD) efficiency and patient experience. The programme is exclusively designed for personnel nominated by P D Hinduja Hospital, Mumbai, one of the city’s leading healthcare institutions.

The newly introduced programme focuses on building essential skills in patient experience management, staff coordination, and service delivery through targeted training. According to an official statement, the curriculum is grounded in “outcome-based learning” and “system-level thinking”, preparing participants to manage clinic workflows, assist physicians, and contribute to seamless and patient-centric healthcare delivery.

This initiative comes at a crucial time when hospital OPDs are increasingly becoming the first and most frequent point of contact between patients and the healthcare system. Efficient OPD coordination has a significant impact on patient satisfaction, operational throughput, and overall care quality.

The certificate programme is open to graduates from science or allied health fields, providing them with a valuable opportunity to upskill in healthcare administration and operations. The first batch commenced in July 2025, and participants will benefit from both academic and practical exposure through the joint resources of the Somaiya College of Nursing and the Institute of Management.

Upon successful completion of the programme, students will be awarded a joint certificate from both Somaiya institutions, underscoring the interdisciplinary approach adopted in the course structure. The programme also strengthens the growing collaboration between academia and the healthcare industry to build a trained workforce equipped to meet the demands of modern outpatient care.

By addressing the growing need for well-trained OPD coordinators, the Somaiya certificate programme is a significant step toward building robust support systems in hospitals, ultimately enhancing the quality and efficiency of healthcare services in India.
