Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia launched the Sanchar Saathi mobile app in Hindi and 21 regional languages to enhance accessibility and outreach across India. This initiative marks a significant milestone in India’s ongoing battle against telecom-related cyber frauds and aims to promote inclusive digital safety.
The launch event, held in New Delhi, brought together key stakeholders from various sectors, including law enforcement agencies, telecom service providers, financial institutions, the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), Railway Protection Force (RPF), and the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). Their participation signified a united front in addressing the rising threat of cybercrimes targeting mobile users.
Sanchar Saathi is a comprehensive citizen-centric app that empowers users to report suspicious or fraudulent communications, verify and block unauthorized mobile connections issued in their name, and trace or block lost/stolen mobile devices. With a user-friendly interface and multilingual support, the app ensures that citizens from all linguistic backgrounds can benefit from its features.
As of the latest figures, the app has garnered over 46 lakh downloads, reflecting its growing popularity and utility. The integration of 21 regional languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi, and Kannada, among others, reinforces the government’s commitment to digital inclusion and its vision of “Digital India.”
Speaking at the launch, Minister Scindia emphasized the importance of protecting citizens in the digital realm. “Sanchar Saathi is not just an app; it is a powerful tool for digital self-defense. With the rise of online scams and mobile-based frauds, it is crucial that every citizen has access to a secure telecom ecosystem,” he stated.
The platform is part of a broader government effort to reduce cybercrime incidents, raise awareness among mobile users, and build a robust system of accountability among telecom service providers. It also enables financial and law enforcement institutions to collaborate more effectively in tracking down fraudsters.
By expanding linguistic accessibility, the Ministry of Communications has taken a major step toward ensuring that digital safety tools are not limited by language barriers. The Sanchar Saathi app is available for download on Android and iOS platforms and can also be accessed via the official DoT portal.
This initiative underlines the government’s proactive approach to safeguarding India’s digital infrastructure and empowering its citizens against growing cyber threats.
