Seventeen MPs Honoured with Sansad Ratna Awards 2025 in New Delhi

In the 15th edition of the Sansad Ratna Awards held in New Delhi in late July 2025, seventeen Members of Parliament were recognized for their exceptional performance in the Lok Sabha—including debating skills, attendance, raising questions, and introducing private member bills.

Among the awardees were Ravi Kishan (BJP, Gorakhpur), Supriya Sule (NCP‑SP, Baramati), and Arvind Sawant (Shiv Sena‑UBT, Maharashtra)

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE RECOGNITION

Ravi Kishan, actor‑turned‑politician, was honoured for his consistent attendance, active participation in debates, numerous questions raised, and private member bills introduced. The ceremony took place at New Maharashtra Sadan, with Union Minister Kiren Rijiju as chief guest. Kishan dedicated the award to his constituents in Purvanchal and credited the inspiration from leaders like PM Modi and CM Yogi Adityanath.

Supriya Sule received both a General Sansad Ratna Award and a Special Jury Award, the latter recognizing her consistent parliamentary excellence across the 16th, 17th, and current Lok Sabha terms. She stood out for her sustained engagement in debates, punctual attendance, and legislative activism

Arvind Sawant, representing Shiv Sena (UBT), was acknowledged for his strong performance in parliamentary deliberations and contributions to legislative oversight. He was one of two MPs from Shiv Sena honoured, alongside Naresh Mhaske of Thane.

BROADER OVERVIEW

The BJP had the most recipients on the list, including Nishikant Dubey, Smita Uday Wagh, Medha Kulkarni, Praveen Patel, Bidyut Baran Mahto, and Dilip Saikia.

Special Jury Awards were also presented to Bhartruhari Mahtab (Odisha, BJP), N. K. Premachandran (RSP, Kerala), Shrirang Appa Barne (Shiv Sena, Maharashtra), and Supriya Sule for multi‑term excellence since the 16th Lok Sabha

Two parliamentary committees—the Standing Committee on Finance (chaired by Bhartruhari Mahtab) and the Standing Committee on Agriculture (led by Dr. Charanjit Singh Channi)—were also recognized for the quality of their reports and legislative oversight.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE AWARDS

Instituted in 2010 by the Prime Point Foundation (with support from Presence magazine and proposed by the late President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam), the Sansad Ratna Awards celebrate consistent and qualitative parliamentary performance. The selection is based on metrics like the number of questions asked, private member bills introduced, attendance record, and participation in debates and committees.

This year’s event, held in late July 2025, underscored the value of meaningful legislative engagement. As Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju noted, active participation and well‑informed debates reinforce democratic accountability—whereas disruptive behavior in the House often undermines both the Opposition’s and Parliament’s effectiveness
