JSW Renew Energy Forty Five Signs 25-Year PPA with BESCOM for 100 MW Solar + BESS Project

JSW Renew Energy Forty Five, a step-down subsidiary of JSW Energy, has signed a significant 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) for a 100 MW grid-connected solar power project, integrated with a 100 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The project, priced at a competitive tariff of ₹4.31/kWh, represents a critical step forward in enhancing Karnataka’s clean energy infrastructure.

The project will be developed on a designated site and is set to be connected to the 220/400 kV Firozabad substation operated by KPTCL in Kalaburagi district. The integration of the BESS will significantly improve grid reliability, manage power fluctuations, and enable the seamless integration of renewable energy into the state’s transmission network.

This innovative solar-plus-storage project underscores JSW Energy’s strategic focus on energy transition and sustainability. By coupling solar generation with energy storage, the project will enable round-the-clock renewable power availability, support load balancing, and reduce dependency on fossil fuels, especially during peak demand hours.

With this latest agreement, JSW Energy’s total committed energy storage capacity has reached an impressive 29.4 GWh. This includes 3.0 GWh from Battery Energy Storage Systems and 26.4 GWh from Pumped Hydro Storage projects currently under various stages of development. The company’s growing energy storage portfolio aligns with India’s broader goal to scale up renewable energy capacity while ensuring grid stability.

This PPA also reflects the increasing role of public-private partnerships in advancing clean energy adoption. BESCOM’s collaboration with JSW marks a vital contribution to Karnataka’s ambition of becoming a leader in renewable energy deployment, while also adhering to India’s national targets under the National Electricity Plan and the Energy Storage Roadmap 2030.

JSW Energy has been actively expanding its renewable portfolio across solar, wind, and hydro technologies. With over 9.8 GW of total installed and under-construction capacity, the company is steadily transitioning toward becoming a net-zero energy player by 2050.

In conclusion, the 100 MW solar + 100 MWh BESS project in Kalaburagi is not only a major win for JSW Energy but also a model for future-ready energy infrastructure, paving the way for more reliable, efficient, and sustainable power systems in India.
