In a dramatic shift in British politics, former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has officially announced the launch of a new political party, tentatively named “Your Party”. Teaming up with progressive Labour MP Zarah Sultana, the new formation is set to challenge the mainstream political consensus with a platform rooted in redistributive economic policies and bold climate justice initiatives.
The announcement comes after months of speculation surrounding Corbyn’s political future, following his suspension from the Labour Party whip in 2020 and continued tensions with Labour leadership under Keir Starmer. At a packed press conference in London, Corbyn described Your Party as “a grassroots movement built by and for the people—those left behind by broken promises and neoliberal politics.”
Zarah Sultana, the charismatic MP for Coventry South and a rising voice among young progressives, will serve as the party’s deputy leader. Sultana emphasized the urgent need for “a just transition to a green economy that doesn’t sacrifice the livelihoods of working people.” She called on climate activists, trade unions, students, and marginalized communities to rally behind a new vision for Britain.
Your Party’s founding manifesto promises a transformative agenda: public ownership of essential services, a Green New Deal-style investment in renewable energy, massive taxation on the ultra-wealthy, and an end to fossil fuel subsidies. It also champions universal basic services, including free public transport and housing as a human right. The party stresses the need to confront both ecological breakdown and rampant economic inequality together—what it terms “redistributive climate justice.”
The party’s formation has already stirred both excitement and skepticism. While progressive grassroots movements such as Momentum and Just Stop Oil have shown early interest, critics within Labour have dismissed the initiative as a political “vanity project” that risks splitting the left vote. However, Corbyn remains unfazed. “We are not dividing the movement—we are rebuilding it,” he said, vowing to give ordinary people a real political alternative.
With national elections on the horizon and growing discontent over climate inaction and cost-of-living pressures, Your Party enters the political scene as a serious disruptor. Whether it can translate bold ideals into electoral success remains to be seen—but Corbyn and Sultana are betting that Britain is ready for a new kind of politics.
