Meri Panchayat App Wins WSIS Champion Award 2025 for Digital Governance

The Meri Panchayat App, developed collaboratively by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj and the National Informatics Centre (NIC), has earned global recognition by winning the WSIS Prizes 2025 Champion Award under the category of “Local Content and Linguistic Diversity.” The prestigious award, presented by the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), celebrates innovative digital solutions that enhance inclusivity, transparency, and citizen participation at the grassroots level.

Launched as part of India’s digital governance initiatives, the Meri Panchayat App is a powerful tool that empowers citizens and local self-governments by enabling real-time governance and monitoring across 2.65 lakh Gram Panchayats. The app is designed to bridge the digital divide in rural areas, enabling seamless access to the Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP) and other essential functions of local administration.

One of the app’s standout features is its multilingual interface, which supports a wide range of regional languages, allowing citizens to interact with governance systems in their native languages. This focus on linguistic diversity promotes greater accessibility, ensuring that users from varied linguistic backgrounds can engage meaningfully with local governance processes.

The Meri Panchayat App enhances citizen engagement by allowing users to access meeting schedules, developmental plans, financial details, and progress reports. It also facilitates public feedback mechanisms, making the governance process more transparent and participatory. By giving villagers digital tools to monitor development activities and hold Panchayat officials accountable, the app significantly boosts rural empowerment.

Its recognition at the WSIS Prizes 2025 underscores India’s growing influence in using technology to strengthen democratic processes at the grassroots. The award not only celebrates the app’s technological innovation but also highlights the government’s commitment to inclusive governance and digital transformation in rural India.
