PM Modi Launches Rs15,000 Incentive Scheme to Boost Youth Employment in Private Sector

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a landmark employment scheme aimed at empowering India’s youth and boosting formal sector job creation. Starting August 1, 2025, the scheme will provide a ₹15,000 incentive to first-time employees joining the private sector, with a special focus on addressing regional employment gaps in eastern states like Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal.

Backed by a robust ₹1 lakh crore government allocation, this initiative marks one of the largest direct interventions in India’s employment landscape. The scheme is designed to promote formal job creation, especially for young jobseekers entering the workforce for the first time. The incentive will be credited directly to the beneficiary’s bank account upon confirmation of employment through verified EPFO or ESIC registration, encouraging both job seekers and private companies to engage in formal hiring processes.

While unveiling the scheme, Prime Minister Modi stated, “This initiative is a step towards fulfilling our vision of employment-driven growth. By supporting first-time jobholders and encouraging private enterprises to expand opportunities, we are building a strong, self-reliant India.” He emphasized that the scheme would not only help jobseekers but also contribute to expanding India’s formal economy and boosting social security coverage.

A core focus of the program is regional equity. Eastern India, often trailing in employment metrics, will be given priority, with tailored awareness campaigns and coordination with local industries to maximize reach and impact. The government also plans to collaborate with state employment exchanges, MSMEs, and digital hiring platforms to ensure smooth implementation.

Experts believe this scheme could significantly reduce the informal employment rate, especially among educated but unemployed youth. By offering a cash incentive to first-time workers, the government is addressing one of the key transition points in a young person’s career — the gap between education and formal employment.
