The Swachh Survekshan 2024–25 Awards Ceremony, hosted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, witnessed a momentous celebration of India’s urban sanitation excellence. Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, conferred the prestigious awards, honoring the top-performing cities and civic bodies that have demonstrated exceptional dedication to cleanliness and urban waste management.
A total of 23 Super Swachh League Cities were felicitated during the ceremony, held in the presence of Union Minister Shri Manohar Lal and Minister of State for MoHUA, Shri Tokhan Sahu. This year’s awards mark the arrival of a new generation of clean cities, with Ahmedabad, Bhopal, and Lucknow emerging as the top Swachh Shehars, exemplifying innovation, sustainability, and citizen engagement.
Among the 43 national awards announced, Prayagraj was conferred the title of Best Ganga Town, a recognition presented by Shri Manohar Lal. Secunderabad Cantonment Board was honored as the Best Cantonment Board for its outstanding sanitation initiatives. Cities like Visakhapatnam, Jabalpur, and Gorakhpur received the title of Best SaifaiMitra Surakshit Shehar for their remarkable efforts in ensuring the safety, dignity, and welfare of sanitation workers.
A special recognition was awarded to the Government of Uttar Pradesh, Prayagraj Mela Adhikari, and Prayagraj Municipal Corporation for their exemplary urban waste management during the Mahakumbh, the world’s largest religious congregation, which witnessed an estimated footfall of 66 crore people. Their efficient handling of sanitation during such a massive event set a global benchmark.
The Swachh Survekshan 2024–25 introduced reforms to make the survey more inclusive and competitive, especially for smaller cities. The refined framework and the One City, One Award principle ensured fair competition, allowing smaller cities to gain national recognition. As a result, 34 cities across States and UTs were recognized as Promising Swachh Shehars for their noteworthy progress in urban cleanliness.
The event also witnessed the digital launch of the Swachh Survekshan 2024–25 Results Dashboard, offering real-time insights into rankings and achievements.
