OVERVIEW OF THE SAHITYA AKADEMI AWARDS
Established in 1954, the Sahitya Akademi Awards aim to promote and acknowledge excellence in Indian literature. Each year, the Akademi honors authors for their exceptional contributions across 24 recognized Indian languages, encompassing genres such as poetry, novels, short stories, essays, literary criticism, plays, and research. The selection process involves recommendations by distinguished jury members, with final approval by the Sahitya Akademi Executive Board.
SAHITYA AKADEMI AWARDS 2024: HIGHLIGHTS
In 2024, the Sahitya Akademi announced awards in 21 languages, with the remaining awards for Bengali, Dogri, and Urdu to be declared at a later stage. The awards encompass a diverse range of literary forms, including eight books of poetry, three novels, two collections of short stories, three essays, three literary criticisms, one play, and one research work.
