Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high level meeting today (22nd March 2023) to assess the COVID 19 & Influenza situation in the country in terms of preparedness of health infrastructure & logistics, also the status of the vaccination campaign, emergence of new COVID 19 variants & Influenza types and their public health implications for the country,Â
With a spike in Influenza cases in the country & rise of COVID 19 cases in the past 2 weeks, the high level review meeting was chaired today (22nd March 2023) by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi was briefed about India has been witnessing a slight rise in new cases with the average daily cases reported as 888 and weekly positivity reported as 0.98% in the week ending 22nd March 2023.
However during the same week 1.08 lakh daily average cases have been reported globally, Prime Minister Narendra Modi directed officials to enhance Whole Genome Sequencing of Positive Samples with the designated INSACOG Genome Sequencing Laboratories,
He added the COVID 19 appropriate behaviour including wearing of masks by patients, health professionals and health workers in hospital premises to be practiced, He also stressed while visit crowded areas wearing of masks is advisable to the senior citizens and those with co-morbidities, He added Mock Drills to be organized again in hospitals to ensure preparedness
Prime Minister stressed the need to ensure that there is availability of required Drugs & Logistics for Influenza & COVID 19 across Health Facilities along with the availability of sufficient beds & health human resources.
He advised 5 fold strategy of Test-Track Treat Vaccination & COVID Appropriate Behaviour to be to focussed and also enhance Lab Surveillance & testing of all Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) cases.
