The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued an important clarification regarding the eligibility of National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) students for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) Undergraduate 2025. The statement comes in response to an RTI application dated 11th February 2025, addressing concerns about whether NIOS students can appear for the exam.
NMC ADDRESSES CONFUSION ON NEET UG ELIGIBILITY
The NMC clarified that there has been confusion regarding the National Testing Agency (NTA) issuing the NEET-UG Bulletin 2025, which some claim does not align with NMC regulations.
However, the NMC has now confirmed that students who have completed their education through NIOS are eligible to appear for NEET UG 2025, as per the Graduate Medical Education Regulations (GMER)-23.
Additionally, the NMC stated that students are also permitted to study an additional subject from NIOS, provided the coursework is completed through an authorized institution. This clarification is significant for students pursuing open schooling, ensuring they have the same opportunities as regular school candidates to appear for NEET UG and secure admission to medical colleges.
NEET UG 2025: IMPORTANT DATES AND EXAM DETAILS
Meanwhile, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially started the online registration process for NEET UG 2025. Candidates can submit their applications on till 7th March 2025.
The NEET UG 2025 examination is scheduled to be conducted offline on 4th May 2025, in a single shift from 2 PM to 5 PM. The test will be held using OMR sheets, following the standard format for NEET UG.
