CBSE Assessment and Evaluation Practices for the Session 2023-24

In line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 that has affirmed the need to move from rote learning to learning more focused on developing the creative and critical thinking capacities of students to meet the challenges of the 21st century proactively,

In accordance with it the CBSE Board has taken multiple steps towards implementation of Competency Focused Education in schools, ranging from aligning assessment to competencies, development of exemplar resources for students and teachers and also for the continuous capacity building of teachers etc

As per the notification released by CBSE in the forthcoming session a greater number of Competency Based Questions or questions that assess application of concepts in real-life situations will be part of the question paper,

From session 2023 – 24 theĀ  lass 9 final exam and Class 10 board exam papers will have 50% competency based questions. Competency Focused Questions will be in the form of MCQs /Case Based Questions, Source-based Integrated Questions or any other type, in addition to it final exam papers of these two classes will comprise of 20 per cent select response type questions(MCQ)s, Constructed response questions (Short Answer / Long Answer type Questions, as per existing pattern) reduced to 30%

From session 2023 – 24 the class 11 final exam and Class 12 board exam papers will have 40% competency based questions. Competency Focused Questions will be in the form of MCQs /Case Based Questions, Source-based Integrated Questions or any other type, in addition to it final exam papers of these two classes will comprise of 20 per cent select response type questions(MCQ)s, Constructed response questions (Short Answer / Long Answer type Questions, as per existing pattern) reduced to 40%
