CISCE’s

The Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) has announced a major reform in school education with the introduction of a revamped curriculum for kindergarten to class 8, beginning in the 2027–28 academic year. The redesigned curriculum will focus on experiential, joyful, and activity-based learning, marking a shift towards holistic education aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP 2020).

The announcement was made by Joseph Emmanuel, Chairman of CISCE, during an inter-school debating competition at Bishop Cotton Boys’ School, Bengaluru.

Activity-Based Curriculum for Foundational Learning

According to the CISCE chairman, the new syllabus will not be a complete overhaul but rather an updated version of the existing curriculum, enriched with practical applications and real-world learning experiences.

Key features of the CISCE new curriculum 2027–28 include:

  • Experiential and activity-based learning across all subjects.
  • Interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approach to build global skill sets.
  • Focus on real-life applications of concepts to enhance problem-solving abilities.
  • Curriculum aligned with NCERT guidelines while retaining CISCE’s unique pedagogy.

Joseph Emmanuel explained, “We are coming up with a new plan for kindergarten to class 8. This will be introduced along with NEP implementation and mapped with global skill sets and competition competencies. It will have a lot of applications and focus on preparing children for real-life scenarios.”

Teacher Training and Holistic Development

Recognizing the need for effective classroom delivery, CISCE will also ensure comprehensive teacher training. Educators will be equipped to adapt to activity-based, creative, and joyful teaching methods. The aim is to foster not just academic excellence but also the holistic development of learners through critical thinking, creativity, and emotional intelligence.

Integration of Technology and Emerging Subjects

In addition to traditional subjects, the revamped CISCE curriculum will integrate modern learning areas such as:

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • Data Science
  • Robotics
  • Environmental Science (to be added soon)

CISCE will also launch a dedicated digital platform to support extracurricular activities, skill-based learning, and student engagement beyond classrooms. This digital initiative is expected to complement formal education and help students build competencies required in the 21st-century knowledge economy.

Regional Office in Bengaluru

To strengthen its regional presence, CISCE has also announced the establishment of a regional office in Bengaluru. Karnataka, which currently has around 400 CISCE-affiliated schools, will directly benefit from the move, making it easier for schools to access council support and guidance.

The revamped CISCE curriculum for KG to Class 8 from 2027–28 represents a major step in shaping the future of school education in India. By combining experiential learning, skill-based education, and technology integration, CISCE aims to nurture globally competitive, confident, and socially responsible students.

With reforms in both curriculum and assessment patterns, CISCE’s new academic framework promises to redefine classroom learning, aligning Indian education with global standards while staying true to the National Education Policy’s vision of holistic development.
