Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements by the application deadline of October 1, 2025:
- Predoctoral Fellowship: Advanced to candidacy in a doctoral program.
- Postdoctoral Fellowship: Earned a doctoral degree after September 1, 2022.
Applicants who received their PhD prior to September 1, 2022, are encouraged to apply for the Getty Scholar Grants instead.
Fellowship Benefits
Selected fellows enjoy a wide range of benefits designed to support their research and enhance their professional growth:
- Generous Stipend: USD 30,000 for predoctoral fellows and USD 35,000 for postdoctoral fellows.
- Residency: Nine months of residency from late September to late June at the Getty Center (Predoctoral) or Getty Center/Getty Villa (Postdoctoral).

Required Documents
Applicants are required to submit a project proposal (five pages, typed and double-spaced), an abstract of their doctoral dissertation, a curriculum vitae, one writing sample (no more than 25 double-spaced pages), and a confirmation letter from their academic institution. Additionally, two confidential letters of recommendation must be submitted to complete the application package.
