The Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) has once again extended the registration deadline for the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST) 2026 for Class 6 admissions. Eligible students can now apply online until August 27, 2025, through the official portal.
The registration window was initially set to close on July 29, 2025, but was extended first to August 13 and now further extended to give more students, especially from rural areas, the chance to apply. The JNVST 2026 entrance exam is a crucial gateway for entry into one of the prestigious Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs), which are known for providing high-quality, free education primarily to students from underprivileged and rural backgrounds.
JNVST 2026 Eligibility Criteria
As per the official notification, students must meet the following eligibility criteria for JNVST 2026 Class 6 admissions:
- Candidates must be born between May 1, 2014, and July 31, 2016 (both dates inclusive).
- Only those currently studying in Class 5 during the 2025-26 academic year in a government or recognized school are eligible.
- Students who have already studied or passed Class 5 in previous academic sessions are not allowed to apply.
This ensures that the opportunity is given only to students currently pursuing the appropriate class level.
Documents Required for JNVST 2026 Application
To successfully complete the NVS JNVST 2026 registration, students must upload the following documents:
- A recent passport-size photograph of the student.
- Signatures of the student and parent/guardian.
- Aadhaar details of the student. In case Aadhaar is not available, a residence certificate issued by a competent government authority must be provided.
Applicants are advised to keep scanned copies of these documents ready in the prescribed format to avoid last-minute technical issues.
Admission Capacity of Navodaya Vidyalayas
The NVS has clarified that each Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya can admit a maximum of 80 students in Class 6 every academic year. Selection is purely based on performance in the JNVST entrance exam, provided that the students meet the eligibility criteria and complete the required verification process.
Why JNVST is Important
The JNVST Class 6 entrance exam 2026 is not just a test but a life-changing opportunity for students from rural India. Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas provide holistic education with modern infrastructure, quality teaching, hostel facilities, and extracurricular opportunities – all free of cost. By extending the registration deadline, the NVS ensures that no deserving student misses the chance due to time constraints.
