Maharashtra’s CM Unveils ‘Garuda Drishti’—World’s Best Cybercrime Countermeasure Tool

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis recently announced that the state has deployed the world’s most advanced system and technology to combat cybercrime. At a high-profile event held in Nagpur, the Chief Minister introduced ‘Garuda Drishti’, a cutting-edge tool designed to track and prevent criminal activities on social media platforms, strengthening Maharashtra’s cybercrime prevention framework.

Reclaiming Lost Funds: ₹10 Crore Returned to Victims

A highlight of the event was the return of ₹10 crore recovered from various cyber financial crimes to the rightful victims. CM Fadnavis personally handed over the recovered amounts to individuals who had suffered losses due to online fraud, symbolising the state’s firm commitment to protecting citizens and restoring their trust.

The Role of ‘Garuda Drishti’ in Cybercrime Prevention

‘Garuda Drishti’ is a breakthrough technology developed under the Cyber Hack 2025 competition. Remarkably, the system was created at a minimal cost and is now officially owned and operated by the Nagpur Police. This innovative tool continuously monitors social media platforms to identify potentially harmful content, financial scams, and misinformation campaigns.

Since its launch, the system has meticulously examined over 30,000 social media posts, resulting in the removal of 650 offensive posts. These include content that could incite hatred, spread fake news, or facilitate financial fraud. By acting swiftly on such posts, the tool has played a crucial role in averting potential law-and-order situations triggered by provocative or misleading online content.

Chief Minister’s Warning and Citizen Advisory

During the event, CM Fadnavis cautioned citizens against the misuse of social media by anti-social elements. He emphasised that platforms intended for connection and information have been exploited to spread hatred, fake news, and financial fraud. Stressing the importance of vigilance, the Chief Minister urged the public to immediately report any suspected financial fraud or cybercrime by using helpline numbers 1930 and 1945.

The Chief Minister’s advisory is a reminder that while technology can aid in crime prevention, citizen cooperation remains indispensable. Reporting suspicious activity promptly enables law enforcement agencies to act effectively and protect the community.

Maharashtra’s Cybersecurity Leadership

With ‘Garuda Drishti’, Maharashtra has set a benchmark for states and nations aiming to fortify their cyber defenses. The tool’s low-cost development coupled with high-impact results showcases the potential for innovative solutions in the fight against cybercrime.

The success of ‘Garuda Drishti’ demonstrates Maharashtra’s leadership in adopting proactive, technology-driven measures to ensure digital safety for its residents. The system’s capacity to detect and neutralise threats before they escalate has not only enhanced cybersecurity but also improved overall public safety.

As cyber threats continue to evolve, Maharashtra’s investment in tools like ‘Garuda Drishti’ will be vital in safeguarding the digital space. The state government plans to further refine and expand the system’s capabilities, potentially integrating AI and machine learning technologies for even more efficient monitoring.

By combining technological innovation with public awareness and effective law enforcement, Maharashtra is paving the way toward a safer, smarter, and more secure digital future.
