In an extraordinary display of endurance, dedication, and cultural devotion, 20-year-old Remona Evette Pereira from Mangalore has made history by performing Bharatanatyam non-stop for an astounding 170 hours, officially entering the Golden Book of World Records. The record-breaking performance, completed on July 28, 2025, surpassed the previous world record of 127 hours and captivated audiences across India.
Remona, a devout Catholic and a student at St. Aloysius University, trained in Bharatanatyam for over 13 years under the guidance of her Guru, Sri Vidya. Her passion for classical dance and deep-rooted spirituality came together in this unprecedented feat, where she gracefully merged the divine rhythm of Bharatanatyam with her Christian faith. Notably, throughout the seven-day marathon, she wore a rosary, symbolizing her spiritual strength and unwavering faith.
Held with the support of St. Aloysius University and in the presence of esteemed church and community leaders, the performance was more than just a record attempt — it was a cultural statement. Clergy and community elders hailed Remona’s accomplishment as a bridge between faith and art, celebrating the harmony between India’s ancient classical traditions and its vibrant spiritual diversity.
Each of the 170 hours was meticulously choreographed, with Remona performing classical items from Bharatanatyam’s rich repertoire, demonstrating not just physical stamina but exceptional mastery over the form. Audiences witnessed the beauty of abhinaya (expression), nritta (pure dance), and natya (dramatic storytelling) — elements that define Bharatanatyam — performed with unwavering intensity and grace.
Her historic achievement has garnered national attention, being described as a tribute to India’s timeless cultural heritage. Cultural bodies and dance institutions have praised her as an inspiration to young artists, especially for breaking barriers and showing that classical art forms are open to all faiths and backgrounds.
Remona Evette Pereira’s Bharatanatyam marathon is not just a record—it is a powerful symbol of unity, perseverance, and devotion. Her story affirms the unifying power of art in a diverse society and serves as a testament to the timeless spirit of India’s classical dance legacy.
