Rishabh Pant Ruled Out of Final England Test with Injury; Jagadeesan Named Replacement

India’s star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has been officially ruled out of the fifth and final Test against England due to a fractured toe, the BCCI confirmed in a media release on Sunday. The injury occurred during the opening day of the fourth Test at Old Trafford when Pant missed a reverse sweep off England pacer Chris Woakes, resulting in a blow to his right foot.

Despite the fracture, Pant showcased immense grit and determination by returning to the crease on the second day and completing a valiant half-century. He had earlier retired hurt on 37 but resumed his innings with a broken foot, earning a standing ovation from fans and teammates alike for his courage and fighting spirit.

India managed to bat through the entire final day in Manchester to earn a hard-fought draw, keeping the five-match series alive. England currently lead the series 2-1, with the decisive fifth Test set to take place at The Oval in London, starting Thursday, July 31.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said, “Rishabh Pant, who sustained a fracture to his right foot during the fourth Test against England in Manchester, has been ruled out of the fifth and final Test of the series.” In response to Pant’s unavailability, Tamil Nadu wicketkeeper-batter N Jagadeesan has been drafted into the squad as his replacement.

The 29-year-old Jagadeesan is an experienced domestic cricketer known for his solid batting technique and consistency. He has represented Tamil Nadu in 52 first-class matches, scoring 3,373 runs at an impressive average of 47.50. His highest score of 321 reflects his ability to play long innings, and he is expected to bolster India’s middle order if selected.

Pant’s absence is a significant setback for the Indian team, given his dynamic presence and recent form. However, his injury has paved the way for Jagadeesan to potentially make his Test debut on one of the biggest stages in international cricket.

With the series on the line and a historic win within reach, India will look to regroup quickly and put forward a strong performance at The Oval to level the series and cap off an intense contest between two cricketing giants.
