Fino Payments Bank has launched GATI, a zero-balance digital savings account, in West Bengal to strengthen the digital banking ecosystem and enhance UPI transaction penetration, especially in rural and semi-urban regions. GATI, which stands for Gateway to Achieve Transactions Instantly, is designed to promote financial inclusion by offering a simple, affordable, and accessible banking solution for underserved populations.
The GATI account can be instantly opened through Fino’s widespread network of 40,301 merchant points across West Bengal. Using eKYC-based onboarding, customers can open their accounts within minutes, making banking services available to those with minimal documentation and no requirement for a minimum balance. The affordable fee structure makes it a viable financial tool for daily wage earners, small business owners, farmers, homemakers, and others who may be excluded from traditional banking.
A key feature of the GATI account is the auto-generated UPI ID, enabling seamless digital payments for goods, services, and fund transfers. Customers also gain access to the FinoPay mobile app, which allows them to manage transactions, view balances, and access additional financial services. The GATI account supports features like insurance options, digital gold purchases, and access to small-ticket loans, offering a full suite of financial products to the masses.
The initiative especially targets the digitally curious segments such as youth, women, and senior citizens who are increasingly engaging with mobile-based services but remain on the periphery of formal banking. GATI aims to bridge this gap by making digital banking user-friendly and locally accessible through trusted neighborhood merchant points.
With this launch, Fino Payments Bank aligns with the Indian government’s vision of a cashless economy and digital empowerment. By enabling low-cost, user-friendly digital savings accounts, GATI can drive the adoption of UPI and contribute to the overall increase in digital financial literacy and transactions.
Fino’s focused strategy in West Bengal, a state with a significant rural and semi-urban population, marks a step toward greater financial penetration. The bank plans to replicate the GATI model in other states in the near future, making banking simpler and more inclusive across India. As digital payment infrastructure continues to evolve, GATI sets a precedent for banking models that blend technology, accessibility, and affordability.
