Nagaland University to Host One of Four Incubation Centres in Northeast India

In a major boost to entrepreneurship and innovation in the North Eastern Region (NER), Nagaland University has been selected to host one of the four Incubation Centres under the Government of India’s initiative titled “Establish, Develop, and Manage Entrepreneurship Development Centres and Incubation Centres in the Educational Institutes of the North Eastern Region.”

Launched in July 2025, the initiative is sponsored by the Meghalaya-based North Eastern Council (NEC) and implemented by the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE), Guwahati, under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE). This collaborative effort is aimed at nurturing a robust startup ecosystem and fostering entrepreneurial development across the eight northeastern states—Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura.

In the financial year 2024-25 (FY25), a total of 145 beneficiaries were selected across the four centres. The Nagaland University Incubation Centre has been assigned 44 of these beneficiaries, including 16 from Arunachal Pradesh, 6 from Assam, 4 from Manipur, and 18 from Nagaland itself. The centre aims to become a hub of innovation, collaboration, and business development for young aspiring entrepreneurs in the region.

The incubation centre will provide a comprehensive support system that includes mentorship, entrepreneurship workshops, ideathons, bootcamps, hackathons, and awareness campaigns. These structured activities are designed to help participants refine their ideas, develop business plans, and connect with potential investors and industry experts.

One of the most promising features of the program is the provision for startup seed funding. The top 50 high-performing incubatees from all four centres will be eligible to receive seed funding of up to ₹5 lakh each, giving them the financial impetus to transform their ideas into sustainable business ventures.

The selection of Nagaland University as a host for this prestigious initiative underscores the institution’s growing reputation as a centre of academic and entrepreneurial excellence. It also reflects the government’s commitment to empowering youth in the Northeast by equipping them with the tools, guidance, and resources to build self-reliant, innovation-driven enterprises.

This initiative is expected to act as a catalyst for regional development, job creation, and inclusive growth in one of India’s most culturally rich yet economically untapped regions.
