The Karnataka School Education Department has issued a crucial order directing all government, aided, and unaided schools following the state curriculum to implement a structured evaluation system for students of Classes 1 to 10 during the academic year 2025–26. This initiative aims to strengthen the teaching-learning process and ensure measurable student progress across all schools in the state.
As per the official circular, which aligns with the annual action plan and educational activity guidelines for 2025–26, a comprehensive evaluation framework has been designed and circulated to all schools adhering to the Karnataka State Curriculum. The goal is to bridge learning gaps and reinforce foundational knowledge through regular and scientifically structured assessments.
KEY COMPONENTS OF THE EVALUATION PLAN:
The academic year for Classes 1 to 10 commenced on May 29, 2025. Under the ‘Learning Recovery’ and ‘Learning Reinforcement’ initiatives, learning outcome-based student activity books and teacher workbooks are being used to enhance classroom teaching and address post-pandemic learning gaps.
The Setubandha program, implemented in June, prepares students for the new academic year. Literature for this initiative has been made available on the DSERT website, and detailed implementation instructions were shared through a dedicated circular. Lesson plans have been structured to distribute content evenly throughout the academic year, ensuring consistent learning progress for all students.
From 2025–26 onwards, Lesson-Based Evaluation (LBA) materials are available on the DSERT portal. These are designed for continuous assessment after the completion of each lesson. Schools will conduct unit tests (LBA) after each lesson to validate learning. In Kannada medium schools, each test will comprise 20 marks from the LBA question bank and 5 marks from the Re-sinchan (reinforcement) component, totaling 25 marks. For other language mediums, a 25-mark question paper will be created from the LBA question bank.
The evaluation process includes Lesson-Based Assessments (LBA), Formative Assessments (FA), and Summative Assessments (SA). These are to be recorded in the SATS portal to track students’ academic progress.
Teachers and school authorities are expected to analyze assessment data from SATS and take remedial actions to ensure the holistic development of each child.
Supervisory officers are instructed to monitor implementation of Setubandha, LBA, FA, and SA programs at the school level during their visits and ensure compliance through regular follow-ups.
This landmark directive by the Karnataka School Education Department underscores its commitment to enhancing learning outcomes through data-driven evaluation and continuous pedagogical support, ensuring that every child receives quality education in line with the National Education Policy goals, for more details and complete guidelines CLICK HERE
