Maharaja Ganga Singh University, Bikaner Opens Applications for Ph.D. Admission 2025

Maharaja Ganga Singh University (MGSU), Bikaner, has invited online applications for Ph.D. Admission 2025 across 23 disciplines. The admission process is governed by the University’s Research Ordinance 101 and adheres to the UGC Regulations dated 07.11.2022, ensuring compliance with the latest national academic framework. The university reserves the right to update its procedures in accordance with UGC’s Standard Operating Procedures and Policies (SOPPs) from time to time.

PROGRAMME & ELIGIBILITY

Ph.D. admission is open in 23 subjects, with 366 total seats (final allocation dependent on the availability of research supervisors).

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS:

• A Master’s degree (after a 3-year or 4-year Bachelor’s degree) with at least 55% marks or equivalent grade
• 5% relaxation is granted to candidates from SC/ST/OBC/MBC (non-creamy layer), PwD, and EWS categories
• Candidates with a 4-year UG degree must have secured 75% marks (relaxation applicable)
• M.Phil. holders with at least 55% marks are eligible
• Applicants under the Part-Time Ph.D. mode must submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their employer

ADMISSION PROCEDURE

MGSU has categorized applicants into three groups:

• Category 1: JRF-qualified candidates with fellowships are admitted based on interview marks (out of 30)
• Category 2: NET-qualified candidates are selected based on 70% weightage to NET score and 30% to interview
• Category 3: Other eligible candidates (as per UGC) follow the same selection criteria as Category 2

INTERVIEW PROCESS:
Shortlisted candidates (up to twice the number of available seats) will be invited for interviews to assess research aptitude and subject knowledge.

Coursework and Duration

• A mandatory 6-month coursework with 75% attendance is required
• Candidates must score at least 55% to pass (one reattempt allowed)
• Failure in two attempts leads to cancellation of admission

PH.D. PROGRAMME DURATION:

• Minimum: 3 years (including coursework)
• Maximum: 6 years (extendable to 8 years with re-registration)
• Women and PwD candidates may receive up to 10 years
• Maternity/childcare leave: up to 240 days
