The National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (Divyangjan), popularly known as NIEPID, is a leading national-level institute operating under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India. Situated in Manovikas Nagar, Secunderabad, NIEPID serves as an apex body for education, training, research, and human resource development in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities. The institute is affiliated with Osmania University and recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI).
NIEPID invites applications for its prestigious M.Ed. in Special Education (Intellectual Disability) program for the academic year 2025. This two-year postgraduate professional course is aligned with NCTE norms and approved by RCI, aimed at developing master trainers, researchers, school administrators, and educationists in the field of special education. With the growing emphasis on inclusion through the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, the program addresses the rising demand for skilled special educators capable of transforming the education system to accommodate and empower children with intellectual disabilities.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Candidates may apply under the following categories:
- B.Ed. Special Education (Intellectual Disability) with at least 50% marks from a UGC-recognized and RCI-approved institution.
- B.Ed. General with a Diploma in Special Education (ID), both with minimum 50% marks and RCI recognition.
- B.A./B.Sc./B.Com. with a 4-year Integrated B.Ed. Special Education (ID) approved by RCI.
- Final-year B.Ed. students fulfilling the above criteria may also apply provisionally but must submit their qualifying certificates at the time of counselling.
COURSE DURATION
- 2 years (4 semesters) full-time
This program offers a comprehensive curriculum combining theoretical knowledge with practical exposure in areas such as inclusive education, curriculum adaptation, assistive technologies, and assessment of learners with disabilities. It empowers graduates to work in schools, inclusive classrooms, special education centers, NGOs, and research organizations.
Interested candidates must submit their completed applications by 14th July 2025. Applications submitted after this date will be accepted with a late fee of ₹200.
