The Sightsavers India Fellowship 2025–26 is a highly esteemed two-year program designed to mentor and empower young ophthalmologists in India. Aligned with the organization’s broader goal of eliminating avoidable blindness, the fellowship offers a unique blend of advanced clinical training and grassroots public health exposure. By collaborating with leading eye hospitals and health institutes across the country, the program aims to shape the next generation of eye care professionals.
Fellows undergo an intensive training phase, followed by real-world rural postings through the Sightsavers India Eye Health Programme. This field experience is pivotal in providing exposure to the challenges faced in rural eye care delivery and helps foster holistic professional development. Beyond clinical knowledge, the fellowship enhances communication, leadership, and management skills—core competencies essential for public health-driven ophthalmology.
ELIGIBILITY
To apply, candidates must submit a set of required documents including a valid ID proof, academic mark sheets, email ID, mobile number, and other supporting documents as specified. Eligibility is open to Indian citizens under 35 years of age, irrespective of gender or category.
Applicants must hold a postgraduate degree or diploma in ophthalmology (MS, DNB, or DO) from a recognized Indian institution. Recent graduates from the class of 2024, including current-year pass-outs, are also welcome to apply. A strong foundation in diagnosing and treating eye conditions is crucial.
BENEFITS
The fellowship is not only a learning opportunity but also financially supportive. Fellows receive a stipend of ₹35,000 per month during the initial four-month training period. This increases to ₹65,000 during the first year of fieldwork and ₹75,000 in the second year. Additionally, a lump-sum bonus is awarded upon successful completion of each fellowship year. Fellows are also provided with comprehensive insurance coverage, which includes mediclaim, accident, term life, and professional indemnity insurance.
