The Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), Mysuru, an apex institution under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, has opened applications for its Diploma in Language Training for the academic session July 2025 to April 2026. Established in 1969, CIIL is dedicated to the promotion, research, and training of Indian languages, and operates through seven Regional Language Centres (RLCs) located across India. The institute’s flagship diploma program supports the implementation of the Three Language Formula, enhancing national integration and multilingual education.
PROGRAMME OVERVIEW
The Diploma in Language Training is a full-time residential or online course, offering 1085 hours of instruction spread across nine months, typically from July to April. The training is delivered in three progressive phases:
- Basic (4 months)
- Intermediate (3 months)
- Advanced (3 months)
A total of 506 seats are available across all RLCs for the 2025–26 session. The programme focuses on intensive language acquisition and cultural immersion in Indian languages (excluding English, Hindi, and Sanskrit).
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Applicants must not already be proficient in or hold a degree in the target language, and must not have undergone training in the same language at any RLC previously. The maximum age limit is 50 years as of 7 July 2025, with relaxation available for in-service teachers.
Eligible candidates fall into the following categories:
In-service Teachers: Bachelor’s degree, Minimum 3 years of teaching experience in government/government-aided primary or secondary schools
Prospective Teachers: Degree in B.Ed./M.Ed., B.El.Ed., D.El.Ed., or TET-qualified
Research Scholars: Enrolled in Ph.D. or qualified NET/SET/SLET
General Public: Bachelor’s degree/diploma from a recognized university, or Ph.D. in any discipline
