The National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR), an apex national centre functioning under the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, has announced admissions for the 17th batch of its highly sought-after Post Graduate Diploma in Sustainable Rural Development (PGDSRD). This AICTE-approved distance learning programme is tailored for individuals committed to making a significant impact on India’s rural development through effective policy-making, planning, and project execution.

Designed with a robust academic structure, the PGDSRD programme spans 18 months, divided into three semesters. It follows a flexible, self-paced learning model, allowing students to access digital course content, attend contact sessions, engage in field-based project work, and appear for semester-end examinations held at regional centres across the country.

The evaluation process is comprehensive:

  • Each subject carries 100 marks: 30 marks for assignments and 70 marks for term-end examinations.
  • The final semester includes a Project Work and Viva, carrying 200 marks.
  • The programme totals 400 marks, ensuring a balanced emphasis on theoretical knowledge and practical application.

Eligibility criteria include graduation in any discipline from a UGC-recognised university. Admission follows the Government of India’s reservation norms, making it inclusive and accessible.

The medium of instruction is English, and the programme welcomes candidates from diverse educational and professional backgrounds, especially those aspiring to contribute to rural policy and grassroots governance. The maximum duration to complete the programme is three years, providing ample time for working professionals.
