Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman Launches PM Internship Scheme App

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman launched a dedicated mobile application for the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme (PMIS), marking a significant step in the government’s initiative to create employment opportunities for India’s youth. The app aims to streamline the internship application process, making it more accessible and user-friendly for eligible candidates.

The PM Internship Scheme, announced in the Union Budget 2024-25, aims to provide one crore internship opportunities over the next five years in India’s top 500 companies. As a pilot initiative, 1.25 lakh internships have been launched starting October 3, 2024. This ambitious scheme is designed to bridge the skill gap and enhance employability among young Indians.

KEY FEATURES OF THE PMIS APP

The newly launched app offers several advanced features to enhance user experience, including:

  • Intuitive Interface & Effortless Navigation – Candidates can easily explore available internships based on location and industry.
  • Seamless Registration – Aadhaar-based face authentication ensures a smooth and secure sign-up process.
  • Personalized Dashboard – Interns can track their applications, view updates, and manage their profiles efficiently.
  • Real-time Alerts – Notifications keep users informed about new internship openings and updates.
  • Multilingual Accessibility – The app is designed to support multiple Indian languages, ensuring inclusivity for students from non-metropolitan regions.

The scheme is open to youth aged 21 to 24, who are not enrolled in full-time academic programs or currently unemployed. Each selected intern will receive a ₹5,000 monthly stipend, along with one-time financial assistance of ₹6,000. Companies will also contribute 10% of the internship cost through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds.

GOVERNMENT’S VISION FOR YOUTH EMPLOYMENT

During the launch, FM Nirmala Sitharaman emphasized the importance of equipping young Indians with industry-relevant skills. She urged Indian industries to actively participate, stating:

“The government is committed to building confidence in our youth. This scheme will provide them exposure to top corporate environments and boost their career prospects.”

The BJP-led NDA government has outlined internship-driven initiatives as a core part of its Viksit Bharat mission, aiming to create a highly skilled workforce that contributes to India’s economic growth.
